Kookaburra Sport is firmly committed to reducing our environmental impact and fostering ethical practices throughout several areas of our day-to-day operations. As a business we recognize the importance of taking responsibility for our actions, remaining conscious of our environmental impacts, and doing whatever we can to make a positive difference where we can in sport.

Future Proofing Our Business

A significant milestone was reached in 2021 with our investment in solar panels around our head office in Melbourne. As a business we are constantly seeking innovative ways to reduce waste with several new factory technologies assisting with waste management (e.g electrical press). A next step will be to set clear and measurable sustainability goals for the future. This way we can positively contribute and be held accountable to a more sustainable sporting world.

Ethical Manufacturing Practices

Cricket Ball manufacturing is a business steeped in tradition and traditional manufacturing methods. With leather being one of the core materials used in Kookaburra Cricket balls, our sustainable ethos is demonstrated in our collaborating with manufacturers, farmers, and suppliers in ensuring that our supply chain adheres to the highest standards of social and environmental responsibility. By embracing technology and innovation, we have been able to reduce waste and enhance worker well-being. Additionally, we constantly strive to identify innovative solutions to minimize waste across our leather off-cuts, ensuring that we contribute positively to the environment.

Responsible Packaging Ethos

We recognize that packaging plays a significant role in our environmental impact. To minimize excess packaging waste, we have made significant steps towards adopting responsible packaging methods and eliminating plastics. Our goal is to follow the principle of "Less Is More" and eliminate unnecessary packaging materials. By prioritizing eco-friendly packaging solutions, we aim to reduce waste generation and promote a more sustainable approach to product delivery. After several years of deliberation, we found a winning solution to our packaging and this can be seen on our 2023/24 packaging across our batting pads, batting gloves and shoe ranges.

Eco-Friendly Fabrics

In September 2021, our first sustainable fabrics range was introduced. We continuously evolve our materials to incorporate eco-friendly alternatives throughout our product range. By embracing sustainable fabrics and materials, we are reducing our reliance on non-renewable resources and minimizing environmental impact. In our apparel range, Kookaburra Teamwear currently offers 23 recycled polyester fabrics as well as two BCI cotton variations. With ongoing development, 10 additional Eco Fabric options will be added in the very near future to make it one of the widest and most developed sustainable ranges in the industry.
